What Can I Do? |
Monday, July 06, 2009 ~ Josh Wilson
I get this question a lot, and the answer usually varies. Yes, there are ways for you to come in and volunteer your time with a specific program. That is not usually where I steer people. The heart of this organization can not be whittled down to participation in programs. Our heart is to build relationships, to get to know our neighbors, hear each others stories, and build better communities. So, to answer the question...come, dive in, walk the streets, get to know the people and neighborhoods we serve. Be creative and help us think of ways to engage the hurting and marginalized. Then take what you learn back to your community.
I came across this creative way to engage the city, and find beauty in our neighborhoods.

On April 30th, 2009, one hundred St Louisians stepped up to the line and threw their dart at the giant map of St Louis City. They then had a month to visit the block where their dart landed and make a photograph. And here are the results!
