Values

Education

Mission: St. Louis believes education is the primary imperative in the empowerment and development of both individuals and communities.  Education can take many forms, including: connecting with local schools to achieve goals such as increased literacy, teaching job skills to adults, and providing families with information about proper health and wellness. Through education, we can work along side individuals to inspire and develop indigenous leadership.

Empowerment

Mission: St. Louis seeks to empower people to grow and develop in all aspects of their lives.  Empowerment means engaging people as equals, not as dependents of charity.  To do this, we enter into dynamic interpersonal relationships based on mutual respect, trust, integrity, grace and compassion.  We make intentional efforts to create interdependent relationships that move beyond the traditional charity model of helper-helpee.  Through empowerment, we are able to work together in achieving personal and community pride based on a regenerated sense of worth.

Economic Development

Mission: St. Louis desires to develop people and communities holistically through economic and spiritual development.  Lasting, authentic change only happens from the inside out.  This means that we must work to bring about long-term change in both economic and spiritual spheres.  To foster economic development we are active in real estate development and helping neighborhood residents to start their own small businesses.  To encourage spiritual development we work with individuals to go from dependence (on an outside source) to independence, and finally to interdependence (authentic community).  We believe this can only come from building trust through authentic relationships.
