In 2010, St. Louis' per capita income was roughly $27,000. The 2008 poverty rate in St Louis was 25%, more than double the state poverty rate of 12% (http://www.stlrcga.org/x1835.xml). Mission: St. Louis works in these at-risk communities around St. Louis. In the past several decades, these are typically areas that have high poverty rates, decreasing populations, or are going through an intense gentrification process. We have found that walking alongside the people of these neighborhoods as they work through life is more rewarding that we ever could have imagined.
