Many of our programs take place in the elementary schools within the communities we serve. Until third grade, children learn to read while after third grade, children read to learn. Literacy, composed of fluency and comprehension, majorly impacts future educational attainment. According to data reported from the Missouri Assessment Program in 2010, 25% of third graders in St. Louis Public Schools (SLPS) were reading below basic levels. By making schools a focus, we aim to target St. Louis's education situation by prioritizing students, their learning, and their success.
