Why Housing?

Homelessness deprives individuals of their feeling of security. Living without a home creates steep barriers to growth for men, women and children. Youth find it hard to focus in school and are at higher risk of dropping out. Adults have difficulty finding and maintaining employment without a set address. Homelessness entrenches individuals and families in the cycle of poverty, creating obstacle after obstacle for those seeking stability. We are here to lend a hand by transitioning people out of homelessness.

Housing is the cornerstone of life, laying the groundwork for future success.

We believe that all people deserve to live in a safe, secure space. When a person has a place to call home, they not only feel safe in their environment: they are empowered. Owning or renting a home unlocks a core sense of dignity that all of us share. Housing provides space to rest and flourish, providing the opportunity to pursue fulfilling employment and find community with others.

“Housing is the link between one’s dignity and one’s ability to survive in our world.”

- Leilani Farha

Meet Delycia.

Delycia was born and raised in St. Louis. From a young age, she developed a love for coloring and cooking, which she found to be an excellent outlet for her creativity and stress relief.

Despite these passions, she faced several challenges in her life, including financial instability. This made it challenging for her to maintain stable housing. She eventually found herself in need of support and joined EACH1, seeking to bring stability and structure into her life.

Through the program, Delycia received the necessary support to overcome the obstacles she faced. She was connected to our HomeFirst program and has been able to create a stable living environment for herself and is working towards her goals of achieving financial stability and homeownership.

Delycia is now excited about her future prospects, thanks to EACH1. She feels empowered to take control of her life and create a positive future for herself. Delycia hopes to inspire others who may be facing similar challenges to seek help and support, knowing that with the right resources, they can achieve their dreams.

Housing Comes First.

In January of 2021, Mission: St. Louis took a major step forward as we welcomed HomeFirst STL, a St. Louis-area nonprofit committed to stemming homelessness. By adding housing services to our expanding umbrella of services, St. Louis families have greater opportunity to be connected with holistic resources to transform their lives. Each resident works with program Success Coaches to establish and maintain employment throughout their housing period.

If you are in need of housing and employment services, click the link below to get in contact with a Success Coach.
